COVID-19 Update

March 21, 2020 :: Latest News, President's Letter

In an effort to help minimize the spread of COVID-19, your board of directors has decided to temporarily close the tennis and basketball courts both on Brandy Station Road and at the swimming pool. Regrettably, we hope this action will discourage groups of people from congregating at the courts and on the playgrounds. We also strongly suggest children stay off the playground equipment until the danger has passed, as we have no way of disinfecting the slides, swings, and climbing toys throughout each day and we don’t know for sure how long the coronavirus can survive on playground surfaces.

Rest assured that the tennis and basketball courts will be opened again as soon as we’ve been advised that it’s safe to do so. We recently updated the courts and other playground equipment for the benefit of Foxfield residents, so the board would like to see them available for use again quickly.

To further minimize the chance of spreading COVID-19, we have canceled our monthly business meeting that was previously scheduled for March 23. (Monthly business meetings are open to all Foxfield residents.) Although the board will not be meeting this month in person, we continue to communicate with each other and with our property manager via telephone and email throughout these challenging times.

[4/23/20 update: The April business meeting has also been canceled. We will resume in-person business meetings as soon as we’ve been advised it’s safe to do so.]

[5/18/20 update: The May business meeting has also been canceled.]

Although we’d previously planned to hold the Foxfield annual meeting in May, we will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will follow guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If by next month CDC continues to recommend that the public avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people, we will postpone this year’s annual meeting. This web site will contain updates regarding the annual meeting date and as always, owners will be notified of the date and agenda by mail several weeks before the annual meeting occurs.

The swimming pool status for this summer is also currently unresolved. We hope to open the pool on schedule and we understand that chlorinated water can deactivate the virus, but we also know that we cannot guarantee that changing rooms, shower stalls, pool deck furniture, drinking fountain, etc. will be continuously disinfected throughout each day. Once again, we’ll be following CDC guidelines. This web site will contain updates regarding the swimming pool and whether we’ll be able to open it on time.

Finally, your board recommends that all Foxfield residents read and follow the advice given on government web site coronavirus.gov. The site contains a wealth of information including how to identify symptoms, how to protect yourself, what to do if you’re sick, and who is at highest risk. A useful chart that displays the latest guidelines as of March 16 is located here.

Current thinking is that the novel coronavirus can spread from one person to the next before the first person even realizes that he or she is harboring the virus. Therefore, it’s important that everyone follow CDC’s advice to reduce, minimize, and eliminate contact with other people until the threat of COVID-19 has diminished. Your board will continue to do what it can to assist the effort.

    What is the status of the Foxfield pool and overall pool season? Noticed that the flyers season is cancelled.

    That’s a great question. See the answer and a complete update on the swimming pool posted today.
